Terms of use

Last updated 28 August 2026

These terms apply to your use of StandCycle at standcycle.app. By using the app you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it.

What StandCycle is

A sit-stand timer that runs in your browser. It reminds you to change posture and keeps a record of your daily totals on your own device. There is nothing to install, though you can add it to your home screen or desktop if you want to.

The timer is free and does not require an account. After a few days of use, the Journey — the record of your climb — asks you to sign in with Google, so that the record is backed up and can follow you to another desk.

Not medical advice

StandCycle is a general wellbeing tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. The intervals it suggests, including the 45-15-1 pattern, are general guidance drawn from published research, not a treatment plan for any individual. The guides on this site summarise research for a general audience.

If you have a health condition, are pregnant, are recovering from injury or surgery, or have any reason to think prolonged standing or movement may not suit you, consult a qualified healthcare professional before changing how you work. Stop and seek advice if using the app causes pain or discomfort. You use StandCycle at your own risk and remain responsible for your own health decisions.

Availability

StandCycle is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that it will be available without interruption, free of defects, or that a reminder will always fire. Browsers throttle background tabs, notification permissions can be revoked, and devices sleep. Do not rely on it where a missed reminder would matter.

Your data

Without an account, your history is stored in your browser and nowhere else. We cannot restore it: if you clear your browser data, use another device, or browse privately, it is gone. Signing in keeps a copy on our servers so that it survives those things — but it is a convenience, not a guarantee. A copy of your record is yours on request: email us and we will send it. What we collect and why is set out in our privacy policy.

Your account

You create an account by signing in with Google. You are responsible for the security of the Google account you use to sign in. One person, one account; do not share it.

You can have your account deleted at any time by emailing hello@standcycle.app from the address you sign in with; we erase your record from our servers within one month. We may suspend or close an account that is being used to attack the service, to abuse other users through the optional climbers feature, or to break these terms — and we will tell you why, unless we are legally prevented from doing so. If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part of anything you paid.

Other climbers

The optional climbers feature shows a small number of other people on your mountain and shows you on theirs, under a name you choose. It is off unless you turn it on, and turning it off removes what was shared. Do not attempt to identify other users, to report a position you did not earn, or to use the feature to harass anyone.

Acceptable use

Do not attempt to break, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the service or the systems behind it. Do not scrape it at a volume that degrades it for others. Do not use it for any unlawful purpose.

Intellectual property

The StandCycle name, logo, interface, and written content, including the guides, belong to us and are protected by copyright and trade mark law. You may link to any page and quote short passages with attribution. You may not republish the guides in full or present the app as your own.

Third-party research, organisation names, and logos referenced on this site belong to their respective owners and are cited to identify the source of a claim. A citation does not imply endorsement.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data, or lost profits arising from your use of StandCycle. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Changes

We may update these terms as the app develops, for example if a paid tier is added. We will update the date above when we do, and announce significant changes in the app. Continuing to use StandCycle after a change means you accept the updated terms. We may also change or discontinue features, though as stated in our pledge, nothing that is free today will move behind a paywall later.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Spanish law and the courts of Spain have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your own country and may bring proceedings there.
